Hineraukatauri
Jonathan Hislop
'Raukatauri' is a unique retelling of pūrākau, combining Taonga Pūoro performance and live sand art (Toi Onepu) with experimental digital art.
The result is a kind of 'Living Painting' - an artwork that comes to life. Our concept aims to introduce Taonga Pūoro and pūrākau to a broader audience both nationally and globally via film festivals (such as Maoriland), local exhibition spaces and online, in the hopes of promoting a deeper appreciation for Māori culture with the help of visually compelling video art.
This Kaupapa from the beginning to the end was a true and equal collaboration between all three artists involved, giving us all an opportunity to practice our roles as Tangata Whenua & Tangata Tiriti honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Angels In Disguise Demons On Display
Josiah Michael Clumont
In this emotionally charged musical composition, the deity takes on the role of a benevolent force, akin to a guardian angel, ready to confront the listener's adversaries while they seek solace in the shadows. The lyrical narrative intricately weaves a tale of unwavering divine commitment, with the deity expressing a profound willingness to protect and shield, even under the silent cover of night. Amidst the challenges and solitude of the spiritual journey, the deity remains resolute, questioning the extent of their divine dedication and pondering the uncharted territories they're willing to traverse.
The song beautifully captures the essence of divine love and sacrifice, embracing the uncertainty of the unknown road ahead. The metaphorical exploration of crossing bridges and facing points of no return adds a layer of emotional depth, illustrating the deity's steadfast resolve to endure any hardships for the sake of the listener. Ultimately, the composition emanates a positive and affirming energy, celebrating the enduring power of divine love, loyalty, and the profound journey into unexplored realms.
